Discover Summer

Arlington Public Library's Discover Summer is returning from June 1 to July 31, 2024. Everyone is invited to enjoy fun activities all summer long. Free programs, classes, experiences, and more will be available for all ages. Whether you're a lifelong resident or new to the area, you are invited to join for an amazing summer of fun, learning, and community engagement! Six Flags Hurricane Harbor 

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, the largest waterpark in North Texas, is open daily for the 2024 season daily through Sunday, Aug. 11 and then will be open during Saturday and Sunday the rest of August. Hurricane Harbor offers guests more than 40 rides, slides, attractions, and pools across a sprawling 47 acres with three million gallons of water. Families can enjoy the adventures of Splashwater Beach and Hook’s Lagoon and experienced thrill seekers can take on Tsunami Surge, Typhoon Twister and Wahoo Racer. One of the park’s newest attractions is Banzai Pipeline, a four-story waterslide complex boasting three unique body slides that will spin, splash, and swirl guests down nearly 300-feet. Theoria Eclipsium: Curiosity, Captivation, Connection

UTA Libraries Special Collections is proud to present Theoria Eclipsium: Curiosity, Captivation, Connection, an exhibition featuring over 500 years of Eclipse History! The exhibition features maps, rare books, and photographs from Special Collections and shows that regardless of time period or scientific knowledge, eclipses bring us together! This exhibition was produced in collaboration with students in Dr. Kim Breuer's Medieval Science and Technology class. The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., inside UTA Libraries Special Collections, on the sixth floor of Central Library until Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024. Eclipse glasses and other giveaway items will be available for viewers of the exhibit, while supplies last.

H.O.P.E. Tutoring Reading Camp

HOPE Tutoring's reading camp is for Arlington students finishing grades 1-5. Reading campers will work one-on-one with volunteers as they read, journal, and learn spelling strategies.

Little Explorers – Downtown Library 

Stop by The Play Room at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library on 10 a.m. Fridays for a morning of play-based learning.  This come-and-go program will vary week-to-week as librarians explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills.  Join the Arlington Public Library for a playfully discover the world around us! Family Storytime – Southeast Branch Library

Join the Arlington Public Library’s fabulous library staff to sing, read and wiggle during storytime at the Southeast Branch Library 10:30 a.m. Fridays. This storytime is geared for ages 2-5. They will read books, sing songs, and have an activity after the program each week. Tween Design Club

Architecture! Fashion! Movie sets! Book covers! Websites! Inventions! Theme parks! Whether it's the buildings we live in, the vehicles we ride, the clothes we wear, or the objects we use, design is all around us. This club is dedicated to the design thinkers of the future. This summer, the Arlington Public Library will gather each week to focus on one interesting topic to explore, then we will develop our own unique designs based on these discussions. The event takes place 2-3 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s Children Play Room. For ages 9-13 ONLY. No registration necessary. To encourage peer camaraderie, club members are encouraged to attend meetings as many weeks during the summer as possible. Best Apps for Seniors 

Some people never venture beyond the handful of apps that came preinstalled on their Apple, Android, or Windows device. Other people load their devices to the brim with apps they rarely if ever use. There are a handful of apps, though, that will keep you learning, growing, and sharing throughout your life. Some read books to you, others serve up daily crossword puzzles, and still others help make sure you don’t forget about any medications! Join the discussion 3-4 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at the East Library and Recreation Center, as one of the adult librarians presents overviews of those apps and gives you a chance to share your suggestions with the class on apps you can't live without!

Housekeys: Live at the UTA Planetarium

Join for an evening of food, drinks, and live music featuring artist Housekeys 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at the UTA Planetarium. Appetizers are included with the price of admission. There will also be a cash bar available. A reception with food and drinks starts at 6 p.m. in the planetarium atrium and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Housekeys is a moniker adopted by multi-instrumentalist and composer Tiffiny Costello (also a UTA physics major!) for her music. Launched in 2014, the project blurs the lines between ethereal genres like ambient, post-rock, and neoclassical.

Final Friday Pottery Share & Learn. RAKU!

Pottery nerds meet monthly to share and learn tips and tricks from each other. Meetings will be held Jan-Sep on the last Friday of each month, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Catalyst Creative Arts. Each meeting will feature a demonstration of a technique, product, tool, technology, or information like chemistry, history, business and social media tips, provided from someone in attendance. Each meeting an attendee will volunteer to demo at the next meeting. These are free community meetings for anyone interested in ceramics but are planned for about 25 people. Please register to attend at the date for each meeting. 

Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series 

Levitt Pavilion Arlington’s Summer Concert Series wraps starting 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, with Sunny Sauceda with Grupo Pression; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 with Donovan Keith with Kiara and Crash; then 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024, with Gary P. Nunn with Cash Byers & Big Valley. The concert is free. Open seating is available on the lawn. Please bring blankets and lawn chairs. Shows at Arlington Music Hall

The Arlington Music Hall has shows you can enjoy this weekend: Bo Deans 8 p.m. Friday, June 28 and then 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, it’s The Elton Johns. Click on the event for ticket information.  

Day Trip – Vendor Market in Plano

Explore and shop a world of unique gifts, exquisite gourmet treats, and seasonal treasures. 100+ small businesses and boutiques will be ready to meet you at the Vendor Market in Plano. Departure time is around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the East Library and Recreation Center. Lunch will be at Raising Cane's afterwards. Registration fee covers transportation. Family Field Day at Globe Life Field

Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series-champion Texas Rangers, is hosting Family Field Day presented by Monument Realty 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024. The action-packed, family-friendly day will include fun activities for children and adults of all ages. Guests are invited directly on the field to experience the ballpark in a unique way. Pet Adoptions Event 

Join Arlington Animal Services mobile adoption truck will be at Petco with furry friends to meet 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024. Stop by to visit with an adoptable pet to get some pet therapy and possibly a forever friend. Cannot make it to the event? Introduction to AI & ChatGPT

Join the Arlington Public Library at an upcoming library event 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library’s [re]Brary Room A&B to explore artificial intelligence and ChatGPT. The discussion will delve into the fascinating topics of AI and ChatGPT and discover how they are shaping our world in innovative ways. Get ready to be amazed at how ChatGPT, a state-of-the-art language model, is not just revolutionizing communication but also shaping the very future of human-computer interaction.

Lego Free Play

Build something tall, wide or anything you can dream of using Lego blocks! Join for an afternoon of fun, imagination, and creativity 2-3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Ron Wright Lake Arlington Branch. This is a come and go program for ages 5-12 and space is limited. All Elite Wrestling presents Collision

A night at an All-Elite Wrestling show is packed with action 6:30 p.m. July 26-27, 2024, at Esports Stadium Arlington. Boasting an impressive roster of diverse male and female wrestlers, All Elite Wrestling features a wide variety of wrestling styles and twist-filled plots. A typical AEW night involves being right there for the broadcast of its flagship TBS show, AEW Dynamite, AEW Rampage on TNT, or the newest TNT show, AEW Collision. 16th annual Light Up Arlington – June 29, 2024

Independence Day celebrations in Arlington will kick off a little earlier this year, with Light Up Arlington set for Saturday, June 29, 2024. This year's event, which encompasses 64 acres surrounding City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, will include some of the top musical acts in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, vendors, food trucks and plenty of kid-friendly fun. Bands will perform at four stages around Downtown, starting with 6 p.m. concerts outside the Arlington Music Hall and Grease Monkey, a 6:30 p.m. concert outside of City Tower at 101 S. Mesquite St. and a 7 p.m. concert at Levitt Pavilion Arlington. The Levitt concert starts with Kiara Mullins & Crash Through The Floor, followed at 8:30 p.m. by Donovan Keith, an Austin-based, SXSW alum known for high-energy R&B/soul performances. Click here for more information. The Arlington Independence Day Parade, a privately organized event, will be held in Downtown on Thursday, July 4. The theme for this year’s parade, which begins at 9 a.m., is “Home Run for Heroes.”
