Collins Intersection Rebuild

Anyone who has driven Abram Street between Collins Street and Stadium Drive is well aware of the nearly $16 million construction project currently underway. As part of this project, the intersection of Abram and Collins will soon undergo a complete rebuild. The intersection will remain open to traffic, but starting Monday, June 5, various lanes of both roads will be closed to accomplish the rebuild.

Drivers should expect lane closures in the intersection to continue through early August.

"We understand the frustrations road construction may cause some drivers. This is a major construction project on a highly travelled road, so we ask for the public's patience while we work to improve mobility through the city," said Senior Engineer Stu Bauman.

The Abram Street Rebuild project was approved by voters as part of the 2008 Bond Election. This section of the rebuild is being completed in two phases.

  • Phase I (Stadium Drive to SH360): Consisted of $8.2 million in road and water infrastructure improvements, sidewalks, streetlights, and landscaping. This phase was completed in fall 2016.
  • Phase II (Collins Street to Stadium Drive): Includes rebuilding Abram Street between Collins Street and Stadium Drive as a five-lane, undivided arterial, enhancing and raising the bridge over Johnson Creek, widening sidewalks, improved parkway street lighting, storm drain improvements, and renewal of water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. This phase is expected to be completed later this summer.

Drivers looking for alternate routes around the construction area are encouraged to use Park Row Drive or Division Street for east/west travel and Center Street, Mesquite Street and Cooper Street for north/south travel.
