Drug-Take-Back

Arlington residents can turn in unused or expired medication for anonymous, safe disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.

The Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the Arlington Police Department and Arlington Water Utilities, will be held at the following locations:

  • North Police District - 620 W. Division Street, 817-459-5600
  • East Police District - 2001 New York Ave., 817-459-5803
  • South Police District - 1030 S.W. Green Oaks Blvd., 817-459-6640
  • Walgreen's Pharmacy - 4400 W. Green Oaks Blvd., 817-563-0142

Medications that will be accepted include controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter medications. Additionally, any solid dosage pharmaceutical products and liquids in consumer containers will be accepted. Medications not accepted for disposal are intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes. Also, illicit substances, such as marijuana or methamphetamine will not be accepted.

It is recommended that participants dispose of liquid medications sealed in original containers. For non-liquid medications, disposal may be in its original container or it can be removed from its container and disposed of directly into the disposal box. All participants must retain possession of their own medication during the surrender process.

The DEA's Take Back Day events address a crucial public safety and public health issue. This provides a nationwide opportunity to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

According to the DEA, the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. Majority of the abused prescription drugs were obtained from the home medicine cabinet as well as from family and friends.

In late April, Arlington participated in creating the most successful DEA Take Back Day ever. A total of 2,242 pounds of medication were dropped off at Arlington sites for safe disposal. This total was the largest in the surrounding DFW area.
