Arlington Gives! Concert for North Texas Giving Day

As part of North Texas Giving Day, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation will host a free community concert featuring Texas native Luke Wade and will also award $30,000 in grants to Arlington nonprofit organizations throughout the day on Thursday, September 22. Since its creation in 2007, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation has awarded nearly $18 million to Arlington nonprofit organizations, City of Arlington departments and neighborhood groups for projects that help the public. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the program and concert. Visitors can also bring their own food and drinks or purchase dinner from a variety of food trucks that will be available.

Food Truck Friday Oktoberfest

Residents are invited to attend the Sister Cities of Arlington 65th Anniversary Picnic and Food Truck Fridays Oktoberfest from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, September 23 at the Bad Königshofen Pavilion in S.J. Stovall Park, 2800 W. Sublett Road. This is the third year that a Food Truck Friday event has featured an Oktoberfest theme, city officials said. This year, Arlington is celebrating a milestone anniversary with Bad Königshofen, which has been our German Sister City since 1951. In addition to the Sept. 23 kickoff, Food Truck Fridays will be held at Stovall Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14. Food Truck Fridays will then move to 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders Plaza in Downtown Arlington on Oct. 21, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11.

Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest

Six Flags Over Texas has announced it will introduce Rage of the Gargoyles Virtual Reality on the Shock Wave roller coaster during this year's Fright Fest, which kicks off this Saturday, September 24! Using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, riders are transported into the incredibly immersive world of virtual reality and become pilots of an Apache-style helicopter and transported into a futuristic battle against blood-thirsty gargoyles on Shock Wave. Also new this Fright Fest season, those who are brave enough to walk the park's midways at night will be introduced to a wicked and blood thirsty journey in the scare zone Black Widow's Walk and the ultimate full-sensory adventure - Blackout haunted house. Fright Fest runs, on select days, through Monday, October 31.

Bears vs. Cowboys on Sunday Night Football

The Dallas Cowboys (1-1) host the Chicago Bears (0-2) of the NFC North on Sunday Night Football at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are coming off an impressive road win against Washington last weekend and hope to continue their momentum at home on a national stage. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. CT. If you can't make it to the game, it will be nationally televised on NBC. Please read AT&T Stadium's bag policy and other guest info before attending this event.

Southwest Classic at AT&T Stadium: Texas A&M vs. Arkansas

The Arkansas-Texas A&M football rivalry is a college football rivalry that started more than 100 years ago in 1903! The teams will face off on Saturday, September 24, 2015 at 8 p.m. right here in Arlington at AT&T Stadium. For those who can't make it, the game will also be nationally televised on ESPN. Texas A&M enters Saturday night's match-up as the favorite, with a 3-0 start to the season and a #10 national ranking in the polls. Arkansas isn't too far behind at #17 and also boasts a 3-0 record. "Ulterior Motifs" at Arlington Museum of Art

The Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington Cultural Tourism Council, and Wheeler Bro's Studios is proud to present the 14th instillation of the renowned group exhibition known as Ulterior Motifs. Conceived in 1999 by Jeffrey and Bryan Wheeler as a celebratory exhibition of Lubbock art and music, this semi-regular show has gradually evolved into a wider presentation of prominent contemporary artists who live in or maintain strong ties to Texas. Star of Texas Challenge

Now's your chance to check out Arlington's newest public art, get your picture on the City's Facebook and Twitter pages and win a prize pack all at the same time. It's the Star of Texas Challenge and you can join the race. The City and the Arlington Museum of Art challenge residents to visit the 20 stars positioned throughout Arlington and check out each artist's interpretation of what makes Arlington the American Dream City!

How does the challenge work?

  • Post your photos to the Star of Texas Challenge Facebook page, tweet them at @CityofArlington or post on the City's Instagram (cityofarlington) using the hashtags #AmericanDreamCity and #StarOfTexas.
  • You can upload all 20 photos as you go or post them all at once. It's up to you! We'll keep track of your name if you want to do them one at a time!!
  • In order to win the package of prizes you must take YOUR picture in front of all 20 stars.

National Night Out/Project 365 Safety Fair

Stop by the Target Superstore parking lot in Arlington this weekend for family friendly activities, fitness and safety tips and more as part of the Arlington Police Department's National Night Out/Project 365 Safety Fair. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24 in the Target Superstore parking lot at 1600 W. Arbrook Boulevard. Visitors can learn more about the benefits of participating in National Night Out, set for Oct. 4 this year, as well as information on City of Arlington services and resources. The fair will also offer family friendly activities, food and giveaways.

North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Show

The North American Reptile Breeders Conference & Trade Show will gather for a one of a kind two-day show featuring reptiles from all over the world including snakes, geckos, and iguanas. The event will be held at the Arlington Convention Center (1200 Ballpark Way Arlington, TX 76011) both Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24-25, 2016. Purchasing the exotic and rare breeds will be the highlights of the event but in addition, attendees will also be able to enjoy presentations from international reptile breeders during both days. Theatre Arlington presents "Guys and Dolls"

Based on Damon Runyon's celebrated short stories about the New York underworld during Prohibition, Guys and Dolls is an odd-ball musical comedy that takes audiences from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana and even to the sewers of New York City! The show runs at Theatre Arlington in Downtown until October 2. Performances take place on Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are Adult - $25 for adults, $23 for seniors (62+) and students with valid ID. Tickets for groups of more than 10 people are $20 each.
