Nine years ago, a new UTA president, James Spaniolo, attended a reception to welcome him and bid farewell to his predecessor.

He hardly knew anyone then, he said Tuesday.

" But today, being in this room with you, I feel like I know you all," Spaniolo paused, " in a very personal way, because you do so much. And I'm talking about the faculty and staff - so much to make this institution great."
