Celebrate the Year of the Snake this weekend at the annual Lunar New Year Festival at Ben Thanh Plaza in East Arlington.

 The event will feature live music, a dragon dance, international cuisine, a general merchandise showcase, and more. It will take place from Friday, Jan. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at Ben Thanh Plaza, located at 1818 E. Pioneer Parkway. The festivities are free and open to the public.  Ben Thanh Plaza, a 175,000-square-foot shopping center that serves as a hub for social and cultural events, is home to around 50 stores and over a dozen dining options.

 Lunar New Year 2025 Day is Wednesday, Jan. 29. In Chinese astrology, the Snake symbolizes wisdom, intuition, and transformation, often associated with resilience and the ability to overcome obstacles. People born in the Year of the Snake are believed to be intelligent, graceful, and perceptive. In Vietnamese culture, the Year of the Wood Snake represents renewal and personal growth, bringing prosperity and good fortune. According to the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau, almost 30,000 Arlington residents are of Asian descent.
