Yaman Subei is living his American Dream as the CEO of Urgentology Care and Glo & Glam Medspa & Skin Care and Managing Partner, CFO, and COO of Cure Allergy Clinic – all original locations in Arlington.
“My parents are first generation Syrian American immigrants, and I was actually born in Chicago,” Subei said. “Walking through downtown Chicago and just looking at all the skyscrapers, I always imagined, you know, what it would be like, you know, working in one of these tall towers.”
Subei stated his father and brother perused professions in the medical field.
“I have so much respect for physicians,” he said. “There was that immense pressure to follow [my dad’s] footsteps and the footsteps of my brother, to become a physician. But it wasn't for me. I remember ultimately, my dad, saying, you know, son, do whatever that you want to do, that you feel passionate for, but be the best at it and make an impact.
Subei graduated with high honors from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s and master’s in accounting. He earned his CPA license at age 22.
“My first job was actually in New York City in one of those skyscrapers that I always dreamed of when I was younger,” he recollected.
Subei worked in public accounting for more than ten years and rose through the ranks at several firms but he and his wife wanted to start a family in 2014. They moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and eventually landed in Arlington.
“I worked with private equity firms, hedge funds as a senior manager,” he said. “I was actually in charge of accounts, for firms that had over $10 billion of assets under management. You know, I had a I felt like I had it all at the time. I checked the boxes for things that were in my dream list, but there was something missing inside. I felt like I needed to do something that was greater than me. You know, remembering my dad's advice and creating an impact. That's when the idea of starting, a business, something that I could, you know, hopefully create a legacy that I can leave for my kids and my grandkids.”
In 2018, Subei founded Urgentology Care, an urgent care practice in Arlington.
“It's been six years now operating, and we have been able to serve over 50,000 patients since inception, he said. “At Urgentology Care, we provide a wide level of services from your common cold and flu to non-life-threatening injuries, scrapes, burns, fractures.”
In 2020, Subei partned with Dr. M. Waseem Imam to create an allergy and asthma practice called Cure Allergy Clinic.
“We felt like we shared a lot of values and the vision for the future,” Subei recalled. “So, we decided to partner up, and it's crazy because that decision was made before the pandemic. We signed the lease, got everything lined up and we're ready to open. Then the pandemic hit in March. We were close on pulling the plug and just canceling the entire, project. But, ultimately, we went with our gut and decided to just move forward with our plan.”
In 2021, Subei expanded his entrepreneurial portfolio and decided to start Glo & Glam Medspa.
“It's a non-surgical cosmetics practice,” he stated. “Our focus is on, enhancing our patients’ natural beauty. So anything that we do does not change how people look. We want to preserve their beauty.”
Subei is active in the Arlington community.
“I serve on the board of directors at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce,” he said. “I was asked to serve as part of the Muslim Advisory council for Mayor Jim Ross. I've chaired the council for a year. I also chaired the Asian Business Council within the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. Last year. I joined Leadership Arlington program, as a member or student, not as part of the faculty.”
Subei says Arlington holds a special place in his heart.
"Arlington means a lot to me because it's the city where I started a family,” he said. “We had our first daughter. It's the city where I built our first business. It's the city where I bought our first home. It’s the city that my family, you know, my wife, my kids and I can call home.”
