Saturday, Dec. 14 is Wreaths Across America, a national initiative where the community remembers and honor veterans by laying wreaths on their graves.

The Lucretia Council Cochran Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution is coordinating the wreath laying at two Arlington cemeteries and is seeking both volunteers and sponsors for the annual event. Nationwide, approximately two million volunteers are expected to lay wreaths for veterans at more than 4,600 locations.

The event in Arlington begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, and will be held at both the Arlington Cemetery, 801 S. Mary St. and the adjacent Parkdale Cemetery, 701 S. Mary St. The event is free and open to the public.

This year, the DAR Lucretia Council Cochran chapter’s goal is to raise enough funds to place 889 sponsored wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest in the two cemeteries. Chapter members say they want to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration and ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country are never forgotten.
