Applications are now open for the first-ever Arlington Water Utilities University, hosted by the City of Arlington’s award-winning water department, Arlington Water Utilities. This citizens academy will provide a 5-week experience for residents. Some of the activities planned include:
- Tours Arlington Water Utilities facilities like the Pierce Burch Water Treatment Plant and John F. Kubala Water Treatment Plant.
- Opportunities to get to know water department leadership and frontline staff members.
- Interactive activities to learn more about the challenges and rewards of working in the water/wastewater industry.
“The dedicated men and women of the Arlington Water Utilities team play a vital role in protecting public health for our city. They manage and maintain billions of dollars' worth of infrastructure, ensuring resilience in the face of challenges like rapid population growth and water scarcity. Arlington Water Utilities University will offer residents a unique opportunity to learn about the essential work they do and get to know the team that makes it all possible,” said Alex Whiteway, Arlington Water Utilities Director. “We are excited to welcome Arlington Water Utilities University’s inaugural class and share Arlington’s water story with them.”

Selected participants will be contacted in February 2025. Classes will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on alternating Wednesdays at various locations. Class dates are tentatively set for March 5, March 19, April 2, April 16 and April 30.
Participants will also be recognized with a graduation certificate and reception in May.
