Buena Vista East’s Partnership with Neighborhood Enhancement Team Makes Community 9 Thousand Pounds Cleaner
It was a great team effort with big results when about 38 volunteers participated in the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) cleanup event in the Buena Vista East neighborhood on Oct. 19.
A total of 4.5 tons (about 9,000 pounds) of debris was removed from the community on the day of the cleanup. Altogether, NET events have yielded almost 161 tons (321,900 pounds) of waste removal from Arlington’s residential neighborhoods since the program began in 2019.
“This service has been a Godsend,” said Ms. Goodwin, on East Mitchell Street. “I am so thankful for the service and dedication to beautifying our city. Thank you so much!”
Volunteers and residents worked together to clear brush and debris from six properties during the event to make the properties cleaner and safer and improve the appearance of the neighborhood. Neighbors helped each other, together with volunteers, offering kindness and a helping hand.
“I have lived in this home my whole life and have never seen the city do this,” said Lynn Warters, another grateful resident on East Mitchell Street. “I love it and think it is wonderful!”

The event wrapped up with a block party with about 55 people in attendance, enjoying grilled hot dogs and refreshments, games, and more provided for the neighborhood.
‘The Retired Librarian,’ David Jackson, with Community Advocating for Prosperity and Opportunity (CAPO), provided 142 free books at the event. His partnership at NET events and his dedication to encouraging reading and learning through book giveaways is greatly appreciated.
The success of NET events is made possible through community participation and the dedication of our wonderful, caring volunteers. Special appreciation to Arlington Hispanic Citizen Police Academy, Leadership Arlington, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Republic Services, Residents of Buena Vista East, David Jackson and all that assisted with the cleanup.
