Arlington Water Utilities Recognized with Excellence in Education and Outreach Award
The City of Arlington was one of 50 WaterSense® partners honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this week during the WaterSmart Innovations (WSI) conference in Las Vegas.
The award given to Arlington Water Utilities is for Excellence in Education and Outreach. Award winners, including utilities, manufacturers, builders, a retailer, and other organizations were honored for their dedication to making saving water easy with WaterSense labeled products, programs, and homes.
The Arlington Water Utilities award nomination highlighted several WaterSense-related activities throughout the year, including:
- In February 2023, Arlington Water promoted a Love Your Yard campaign to reduce outdoor water use. The utility offered free kits to customers that contained four sprinkler gauges, instructions on how to measure sprinkler output, and information on water-smart irrigation.
- For the EPA’s Fix a Leak Week in March, Arlington Water hosted two in-person classes and posted on social media to educate residents on the importance of finding and fixing leaks inside and outside their homes. In addition, the department promoted Fix a Leak Week in its Tips and Tools for Saving on Your Bill newsletter, which was sent to 17,267 subscribers in March 2023.
- Arlington Water customers also could sign up for free sprinkler evaluations all year long as part of a collaboration with WaterSense partner Tarrant Regional Water District. The utility used targeted emails to promote the program and performed more than 500 evaluations in 2023!
- Arlington Water and Tarrant Regional Water District also worked together to allow customers to exchange old, inefficient showerheads in the fall of 2023 for a WaterSense-labeled model, distributing 127 showerheads.
- According to the EPA, the organizations recognized Thursday and over 2,100 other WaterSense partners helped consumers and businesses save 1.2 trillion gallons of water in 2023 alone and 8.7 trillion gallons since 2006.
