As we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, the City of Arlington invites residents to celebrate the rich culture, vibrant history, and invaluable contributions of the Hispanic community. Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the City will host a variety of events at our libraries, parks, and public spaces, showcasing the diverse heritage of our Hispanic residents and their impact on the Arlington community.

Events to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Throughout the month, the City of Arlington will offer an array of events designed to engage, educate, and celebrate. Here’s a glimpse at what’s in store:

Events at Arlington Libraries

  • Health and Wellness Fair (Feria de Salud y Bienestar): Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through physical and mental wellness! Join us for fun wellness activities and community demonstrations in Spanish. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010.
  • Bilingual Storytime (Cuentos Bilingües): Join us every Thursday at the East Library & Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010 at 10:30 a.m. for bilingual storytelling sessions featuring Hispanic folktales, legends, and contemporary stories that reflect the diversity and richness of Hispanic culture. Great for families and children of all ages!
  • Cultural Crafts Workshops (Talleres de Artesanía Cultural): Learn to create traditional crafts like
    • DIY Piñatas for Teens: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by making your own DIY Mini Piñata! These pinatas are for decorative purposes only and are perfect to use as a wall hanging or to chill on your desk. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, 4 – 5:30 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010.
    • 3D Printing for Beginners: Sugar Skulls: Learn the basics of the 3D printing software and then watch your design take shape before your eyes! 3D skulls will be available to decorate. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, 6 – 8 p.m., George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S Center St, Arlington, TX 76010.
    • Hojalata: Tin Foil Art Ages 9+: In this come-and-go class, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a traditional Mexican folk art known as “hojalata” in Spanish dating back to the 16th century. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, 6 – 8 p.m., George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S Center St, Arlington, TX 76010.
  • Tea-Time: Horchata: In our inaugural Tea Time, we will be learning about the Mexican drink Horchata (pronounced or-CHAH-tah)! This sweet rice milk beverage traditionally contains rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Served cold, this drink will brighten your day and is a fantastic way to celebrate Hispanic culture! Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, 6 – 7 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010.
  • Author Talks and Book Displays (Charlas con Autores y Exposiciones de Libros): Meet local Hispanic author Miguel Briones, an award-winning educator, community organizer, public speaker, and self-published author and illustrator of the bilingual children's book Macho no Machismo. Don't miss our curated book displays featuring Hispanic writers, stories, and cultural insights. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010.
  • Art and Cultural Festival (Festival de Arte y Cultura): Join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with our Arts & Culture Festival. Discover new local artists and learn more about Hispanic culture. This event is free, and all ages are welcome. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S Center St, Arlington, TX 76010.

Celebrations in Arlington Parks

  • Taste of East (Clases de Cocina Hispana): Join us for yummy cooking workshops at East Library and Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave, Arlington, TX 76010. We'll provide the supplies and have an instructor help guide you through making your very own dish. At the end of the class, you'll be able to take your tasty work home! The workshops are every Saturday in September from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Levitt Pavilion Concerts

Levitt Pavilion is located at 100 W. Abram St. Arlington, TX 76010. Open seating is available on the lawn. Please bring blankets and lawn chairs. You also can bring your own food and coolers with beverages, including alcohol, but no glass containers, please. Parking is free. For directions to the Levitt, please see Directions & Parking.
