Arlington Completes Drainage Improvements at Glen Springs Drive, Storie Road and Turner Warnell at US 287
The Public Works Department is pleased to announce that the drainage improvements for the following locations Glen Springs Drive, Storie Road, and Turner Warnell Road at US 287 are complete.
Construction for this project began in August 2023 and was completed in July 2024. The purpose of this effort was to address localized home and business flooding on Glen Springs Drive, Storie Road, and Turner Warnell Road at US 287.
This project was selected due to the failed and deficient public infrastructure that resulted in structural flooding in each of the three project areas. The improvements in these areas consisted of new storm drain inlets, sanitary sewer installation, storm drain channel installation, a new detention pond, installation of driveway culverts, and ditch improvements.
These improvements will improve the livelihood of residents in the project areas by reducing the flood risk at the following locations:
Storie Road – Improved roadside ditches, upsized driveway culverts, upsized the culvert under Storie Road, and improved the downstream channel to allow for more efficient drainage and to reduced flooding in homes. Click here to see the project area map.
Glen Springs – Created a detention pond to reduce stormwater flow in the downstream system and to reduce flooding in homes. Click here to see the project area map.
Turner Warnell at US 287 – Improved ditches and replaced failing storm drain with a channel to reduce structural flooding of businesses. Click here to see the project area map.
This project is part of the City’s efforts to minimize flooding and to improve drainage.
