The City of Arlington is seeking public input on community and housing needs as it writes a new five-year Consolidated Plan to prioritize federal funding allocated for services and programs that serve low- and moderate-income families, individuals with disabilities and senior residents.

The City is required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to submit a Consolidated Plan every five years that describes the community needs, resources, priorities, and the proposed activities to be undertaken under HUD programs. Arlington uses its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) Grant funding to assist lower-income people, households, and communities throughout the 99-square-mile City.

In addition, the City is required to submit to HUD a One Year Action Plan, which details how Arlington will allocate funds from CDBG, ESG, and HOME to accomplish the priority needs and goals set forth in the 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan.

Residents are invited to weigh through:

  • Online surveys available in English or Spanish
  • A public meeting set from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at the City Council Chambers, 101 W. Abram St.
  • A Microsoft Teams meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12. Please call 469-375-9689 or 833-268-8354 and enter Conference ID: 577 029 830# to join the virtual meeting. Click here to join.

The online survey includes questions about participants ability to afford expenses such as rent/mortgage, needed home repairs, and reliable transportation and to also rank top community needs. These topics include issues such as affordable childcare, public infrastructure improvements, access to healthcare and mental health resources, or more resources for individuals with disabilities, who are homeless, or who are retirement age.

Surveys must be complete by Sept. 30, 2024. All questions are optional.

The City will also host four public meetings in September inviting community members, including developers, real estate agents and nonprofit organization representatives, to provide feedback on a Housing Needs Assessment the City is developing as part of the Consolidated Plan. Feedback provided from this survey will be used, along with other collected data, to build the Housing Needs Assessment Report and the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Report.

These reports inform the public, policy makers, industry representatives and community-based organizations about housing conditions and trends and help analyze fair housing and affordable housing issues in Arlington.
