Did you know that US 287 runs from the panhandle all the way down to Port Arthur? That’s 671 miles!
TxDOT’s Transportation Planning and Programming Division is conducting the US 287 Corridor Interstate Feasibility Study and is seeking public input to learn more about Texans' priorities along the corridor.
The purpose of the study is to prioritize multimodal transportation improvements that facilitate safety and mobility on US 287 and evaluate the feasibility of upgrading the US 287 corridor to meet interstate design standards. The study corridor spans along US 287 from Port Arthur to Future I-27, traveling through nine TxDOT Districts, 55 counties, six Metropolitan Planning Organizations/Council of Governments, and is adjacent to 68 cities. This includes the City of Arlington.

Potential improvements to the US 287 Corridor will be identified in collaboration with the stakeholders and public by analyzing multiple elements, such as:

- Asset preservation
- Interstate feasibility
Study Components
The components of the US 287 Corridor Interstate Feasibility Study are to:
- Review existing conditions, identify needs, and gaps
- Engage broad range of corridor stakeholders
- Assess interstate feasibility
- Perform economic analysis
- Identify and prioritize improvements
- Estimate preliminary costs by improvement
- Develop implementation plan and report
Stakeholder and Public Engagement
This study will be guided through a corridor-wide Steering Committee with input from three Segment Working Groups, TxDOT Districts and Divisions, the public, and private sectors. The three Segment Working Groups are:
- Southeast – From Port Arthur to the Freestone/ Navarro County Line
- Central – From the Freestone/ Navarro County Line to the Montague/Wise County Line
- Northwest – From the Montague/Wise County Line to I-40/Future I-27 in Amarillo
