9/11 Memorial Events in Arlington Include Concerts, Flag Display and Benefit Walks/Runs
Community events are planned across Arlington, from concerts to benefit walks and runs, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks on America and to recognize the victims and the heroic first responders who answered the call for help.
Among this year’s memorial events:
Field of Honor
At Veterans Park, 911 American flags will be on display from Sept. 4 through Sept. 11 to call attention to and to honor those who serve or have served in our nation's military, local law enforcers, firefighters, first responders and those on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendance is free to the public. A special opening ceremony at the park, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane, is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 4 that will include live music. Stars, Stripes & Remembrance Concert
"Stars, Stripes, & Remembrance," a 9/11 memorial concert, will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at Levitt Pavilion Arlington. Country/retro rocker Deana Carter will open for country superstar Lee Greenwood, following a patriotic program paying tribute to Arlington fire responders. The evening will feature remarks from Mayor Jim Ross, a bagpipe performance, and a special presentation from the National Medal of Honor Museum, which is anticipated to open in Arlington in 2024. Gates open at 5 p.m., the program begins at 6 p.m., Deana Carter opens the show at 7 p.m. and Lee Greenwood performs at 8:30 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets for the event.
9/11 Memorial Concert
The Arlington Master Chorale will hold a special 9/11 memorial concert at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Arlington ISD’s new Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 900 E. 9/11 Heroes Run DFW
The Travis Manion Foundation will host the DFW 9/11 Heroes Run 5K race and 1M Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 25 at River Legacy Park, 701 NW Green Oaks Blvd. in Arlington. The annual race will unite the community to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11, as well as to honor our military and first responders that serve our country and our communities.
A portion of the proceeds from the 9/11 Heroes Run will benefit the Travis Manion Foundation, which empowers veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations. TMF has been active in Arlington with initiatives like Operation Legacy Fish Creek Cleanup Challenge, partnering with Code and Compliance for their neighborhood cleanups, and Character Does Matter presentations to school age children. Arlington Heroes Run
The 7th annual Arlington Heroes Run, presented by the Rotary Club of Arlington and Joe Hall Roofing Inc., is set for Saturday, Sept. 11 at Veterans Park, 3600 W. Arkansas Lane.
