It is a tradition that is truly unique to Arlington — volunteering at Mission Arlington on Thanksgiving morning. With the nonprofit set to deliver 6,000 meals this year, it's an act of kindness that couldn't happen without the community.
"It is a beautiful picture of a community like none other, that God has put together and blessed," said Mission Arlington Executive Director Tillie Burgin. "I can't begin to tell you all of the people who are coming, to make sure everyone has something on Thanksgiving day."
Volunteers have been hard at work, preparing the food for Thursday's deliveries. But the work is far from over.
Mission Arlington needs 6,000 volunteers at its Downtown location (210 W. South Street) Thursday, Nov. 28 at 8 a.m. to deliver meals. The deliveries will be finished in time for volunteers to be home by noon.
Most deliveries will be in Arlington or Grand Prairie. Last year, Mission Arlington provided Thanksgiving for 25,684 people.
