They're official Arlington police officers — badges and all. But these members of the force never ride alone.
In the latest episode of On the Clock, Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton takes us inside training for the police department's mounted patrol.
If you've been to major events in Arlington, you've likely seen the officers and horses on duty.
The mounted patrol unit includes six horses with sensory, optical and weapons training.
The program is voluntary, and the participating officers say their service stems from a deep passion for animals.
"I grew up wanting to be a mounted police officer," said Arlington Police Officer Cliff Elliott."There was a full time unit at one time with the police department in the 80s. We're trying to bring it back."
