Arlington Parks and Recreation's Food Truck Friday Dinner Series
Looking to enjoy dinner outdoors? The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's Food Truck Fridays series continues week at Stovall Park. This Friday night's food truck line up includes Butchers Son, What's Cooking Chef, Rockn' Ricks, Bellatrino's Neapolitan Pizzeria and Sandwiches Around the World. If you need a sweet treat after dinner, stop by Steel City Pops or Todally Ice's trucks. Soulful Gypsy's fashion truck will also be on scene. Ventana Grille will also be onsite featuring Legal Draft Beer Co. along with other beer and wine options. Food Truck Fridays are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each Friday at Stovall Park, 2800 W. Sublett Road, until Oct. 14.
Last Weekend of the Levitt Pavilion Fall Concert Series
It's the last weekend of free music for 2016 at the Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington. The Nightowls took Texas by storm in 2014 with the release of their debut album, Good As Gold. The group will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 30, sponsored by Arlington Today magazine. He's not exactly a household name, but Billy Joe Shaver's songs are country standards, and his reputation as a master songwriter and Texas colorful character remains strong since the 1970s. Billy Joe performs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. The Levitt's last free concert is Bart Crow at 8 p.m. The road-toughened troubadour and his band have logged thousands of miles playing in front of loyal crowds. Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest
Six Flags Over Texas has announced it will introduce Rage of the Gargoyles Virtual Reality on the Shock Wave roller coaster during this year's Fright Fest! Using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, riders are transported into the incredibly immersive world of virtual reality and become pilots of an Apache-style helicopter and transported into a futuristic battle against blood-thirsty gargoyles on Shock Wave. Also new this Fright Fest season, those who are brave enough to walk the park's midways at night will be introduced to a wicked and blood thirsty journey in the scare zone Black Widow's Walk and the ultimate full-sensory adventure - Blackout haunted house. Fright Fest runs, on select days, through Monday, October 31.
"Ulterior Motifs" at Arlington Museum of Art
The Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington Cultural Tourism Council, and Wheeler Bro's Studios is proud to present the 14th instillation of the renowned group exhibition known as Ulterior Motifs. Conceived in 1999 by Jeffrey and Bryan Wheeler as a celebratory exhibition of Lubbock art and music, this semi-regular show has gradually evolved into a wider presentation of prominent contemporary artists who live in or maintain strong ties to Texas. Star of Texas Challenge
Now's your chance to check out Arlington's newest public art, get your picture on the City's Facebook and Twitter pages and win a prize pack all at the same time. It's the Star of Texas Challenge and you can join the race. The City and the Arlington Museum of Art challenge residents to visit the 20 stars positioned throughout Arlington and check out each artist's interpretation of what makes Arlington the American Dream City!
How does the challenge work?
- Post your photos to the Star of Texas Challenge Facebook page, tweet them at @CityofArlington or post on theCity's Instagram (cityofarlington) using the hashtags #AmericanDreamCity and #StarOfTexas.
- You can upload all 20 photos as you go or post them all at once. It's up to you! We'll keep track of your name if you want to do them one at a time!!
- In order to win the package of prizes you must take YOUR picture in front of all 20 stars.
Rays vs. Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington
The Rangers have already clinched a second straight AL West division title, but don't miss your chance to see the team close out the regular season at Globe Life Park in Arlington this weekend! Fans going to Friday night's game will see a post-game fireworks display. On Saturday, October 1, the first 15,000 fans will receive a Colby Lewis bobblehead and be sure to wear your red Rangers gear on Sunday and take advantage of $10 tickets in the Upper Level seating areas on Fan Appreciation Day. First pitch for Friday and Saturday is at 7:05 p.m. CT and 2:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. The Rangers will play their first playoff game in the American League Division Series on Thursday, October 6. The time is to be determined.
Theatre Arlington presents "Guys and Dolls"
Based on Damon Runyon's celebrated short stories about the New York underworld during Prohibition, Guys and Dolls is an odd-ball musical comedy that takes audiences from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana and even to the sewers of New York City! The show runs at Theatre Arlington in Downtown until October 2. Performances take place on Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are Adult - $25 for adults, $23 for seniors (62+) and students with valid ID. Tickets for groups of more than 10 people are $20 each.
