Lockhart Smokehouse Coals Transfered From Dallas to Light BBQ Smokers at Texas Live!
In a deep rooted tradition that dates back to the early 1900s, Lockhart Smokehouse coals were transferred today from Oak Cliff to its newest location at Texas Live! set to open August 9th in the Arlington Entertainment District. The ceremonial procession, which started at the Lockhart Smokehouse Oak Park location, traveled to the Arlington Entertainment District where City of Arlington Police and Fire Department vehicles joined Lockhart Smokehouse team members to escort the coals to Texas Live!. The City of Arlington Communications team was on hand to film this major milestone for Lockhart Smokehouse and Texas Live!
"We are excited to carry on this family tradition of moving coals and getting those pits fired up," stated Jill Bergus, Co-Owner, Lockhart Smokehouse. "We can't wait for everyone to enjoy the sweet post oak smoke around Texas Live!"
Founded by Jeff and Jill Bergus, Lockhart Smokehouse specializes in smoking mouthwatering meats in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Jill Bergus, the granddaughter of the legendary Edgar "Smitty" Schmidt who ran Kreuz Market for over 40 years in Lockhart, TX, collaborated with her cousin and now owner of Kreuz Market, Keith Schmidt, to get that iconic central Texas flavor to the Dallas area.
Lockhart opens at Texas Live! in Arlington on August 9, 2018.
Lockhart Smokehouse is the only place in the Dallas-Fort Worth area where you can find Kreuz Market Sausage, and just like in Lockhart, the meat is served on butcher paper. Guests will be able to experience that same Lockhart tradition at the Texas Live! location. Texas standards will include brisket, ribs and other meats smoked low and slow over Texas post oak, as well as daily specials such as Prime Rib, Beef Ribs and Burnt Ends. Additionally, updated versions of classic southern sides with a Lockhart spin will round out the menu.
"The rich family history and traditions of the Schmidt family and Lockhart Smokehouse resonated deeply with us from the onset," stated Jim Watry, Chief Operating Officer, Texas Live!. "It's a special day for Texas Live! and Lockhart Smokehouse as we fire up the smokers in anticipation of our Grand Opening on August 9."
The Grand Opening celebration for Texas Live! will take place August 9 - 12 in the Arlington Entertainment District. Grand Opening festivities for Texas Live! will kick off Thursday, August 9 with national recording artist and Dallas-Fort Worth native, Toadies, performing on the Arlington Backyard stage.
