The Friends and Foundation formed in 2016 as the result of a merger between two previous nonprofit support organizations, the Friends of the Arlington Public Library and the Arlington Public Library Foundation. Both groups had a long history of supporting library and literacy efforts in Arlington through a variety of fundraisers. The FFAPL continues this tradition through supporting Summer Reading Club, the capital campaign for the new George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, and other library events and programs.
