Katie Browning stood, arms full of books, as her three children browsed the neatly organized tables for even more good reads at the Meadowbrook Recreation Center on Friday afternoon.
This was Browning's first trip to the annual Friends and Foundation of the Arlington Public Library's annual spring book sale. But after finding so many affordable books there, she said it won't be her family's last.
"We homeschool our kids, so this is a good place to buy cheap materials," she said. "Everything is organized so well."
Residents who haven't made it to Meadowbrook Recreation Center yet this week still have time to catch the sale, which offers deals on books, DVDs, audiobooks, puzzles and more. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at the center, located at 1400 East Dugan Street off Abram Street. Sunday is Half Price Day.
The book sale is held twice a year to raise money for the Arlington Public Library.

The Friends and Foundation formed in 2016 as the result of a merger between two previous nonprofit support organizations, the Friends of the Arlington Public Library and the Arlington Public Library Foundation. Both groups had a long history of supporting library and literacy efforts in Arlington through a variety of fundraisers
Arlington resident Barbara Kalo has been volunteering at the book sale for more than 10 years.
"Reading is such a big part of children's lives, it's so important to support that," Kalo said.
