The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's Food Truck Fridays lunch series in Downtown Arlington starts back up again this Friday, April 28. This event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday until May 19 at Founders Plaza, 100 W Abram Street. The park is located next to the Levitt Pavilion, just south of Arlington City Hall. Each Friday will feature a new lineup of food trucks, allowing visitors the opportunity to taste and try out different fare. The food truck line-ups will be announced the Wednesday before each event at www.naturallyfun.org/foodtruck.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Temporary road closures are in effect until May 22 for sections of Abram Street, Mesquite Street and Center Street in Downtown because of ongoing work on the 101 Center mixed-use development project. Residents planning to attend Food Truck Friday or visit City Hall, the Levitt Pavilion/Founders Plaza or Municipal Court should take these closures into account when planning their route.
What better way to spend time with your favorite canine pal than with live music, local beer and dog-themed food? Dog owners and dog lovers are invited to engAGE Arlington's 2nd annual Yappy Hour Dog Social, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 28 at Vandergriff Park, 2800 S. Center Street. Leashed dogs of all breeds and adults ages 21 and up are welcome to attend. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 cash at the event. The Texas Rangers finish up their 10-game homestand at Globe Life Park in Arlington during a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30. On Friday, the first 40,000 fans will receive a Big Green Egg/Tostitos Rally Towel. Fans will enjoy a fireworks show after the game on Friday and get a chance for autographs from former Rangers from 6-6:45 PM at the New Era Alumni Alley on the left field concourse both Friday and Saturday. The first 15,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a Medical City Healthcare Adrian Beltre Dancing Legs Bobble and enjoy a post-game concert by The Toadies. Sunday's game is $1 Blue Bell Ice Cream Sunday for kids ages 13 & under and the first 15,000 fans will receive a PowerAde Rangers Duffel Bag. Lecrae, an American Christian hip hop artist and songwriter will perform after the game.
The festival is hosted by the Arlington Garden Club in conjunction with Master Naturalists of Arlington and theArlington Historical Society. This year's event, free and open to the public, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Fielder House Museum, 1616 West Abram St. The Arlington Garden Club will offer a variety of plants for sale. The festival includes several guest speakers as well as Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists to answer questions. Proceeds will support the maintenance of the Fielder Museum grounds. UTA Planetarium has announced its spring schedule of shows through May 28, 2017. This lineup is featured in the latest episode of "Culture Buzz" and includes Phantom of the Universe, a new planetarium show that unveils scientists' efforts to explore Dark Matter. The show focuses on the Large Hadron Collider, the gigantic underground particle detector which is being used to explore the inner workings of the matter. Dark Matter is invisible and we only know of its existence due to its gravitational effect. It is believed that 85 percent of the matter in the universe is Dark Matter.
