Arlington is Moose Proud.

Actor Erik Estrada stopped by the Grand Prairie Moose Lodge in Arlington on Sunday with a film crew, which is filming "Moose Proud," a documentary about the Loyal Order of Moose.

To celebrate, the lodge invited Mayor Robert Cluck and police officers and firefighters from Arlington and Grand Prairie to eat barbecue, shake hands with Estrada and chat with Moose members.

"We know that Moose is the world's best-kept secret," said Marie Cantrell, a member of the lodge's Women of the Moose, who helped coordinate the event. "We are honored to help tell that story."

Grand Prairie Moose Lodge 1818 is active in the Arlington and Grand Prairie communities, donating schools supplies to local schools and food, clothing and Christmas gifts to area organizations that serve the needy.

Estrada thanked the Moose chapter, as well as police officers and firefighters, with leading robust community service efforts.

Estrada is best known for his role as Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncherello from the television series CHiPs, a cop drama that aired on NBC from 1977 to 1983. Now a reserve police officer and deputy sheriff in Virginia, he joined the Moose eight years ago.

In addition to the documentary, Estrada is touring the country to promote the Safe Surfin' Foundation, which educates the public about Internet crimes involving children. He recently appeared in the film, "Finding Faith," which chronicles the true stories of law enforcement officers who work for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Estrada urged Moose members to take Internet safety seriously for their children and grandchildren.

"We are losing too many kids to the dangers of the Internet," he said. "The best way to combat this is education."

Thanking Estrada for his advocacy for children, Cluck proclaimed Nov. 17 as Erik Estrada Day.

"It is a real privilege to meet Erik," Cluck said. "We need more people in the world like him."
