Congratulations! Thirty residents are beginning a new journey as graduates of the Citizens Police Academy. The class includes 13 adults and 17 high school students.
On May 6, the graduates of Class #53 were recognized for completing an 11-week program that focuses on public safety and law enforcement. Assistant Chief Jaime Ayala delivered the keynote address in Council Chamber, applauding volunteer service and thanking participants for their commitments to safety. The High School Citizens Police Academy was coordinated by APD's School Resource Officers. Following the graduation ceremony in Council Chamber, members of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association hosted a reception for the graduates and their families.
As a CPA graduate, members are part of an ongoing effort to help develop citizen awareness and public understanding of law enforcement. Upon completion of the program, graduates do not become police officers or vigilantes, but better informed residents in a unique position to share their experiences with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. This public safety program is offered as a free service for Arlington residents. A new class will be forming this fall. To learn more, visit www.ArlingtonPD.org
