Arlington, Rangers Celebrate ‘Going to the World Series’ Statue Unveiling at North Plaza

City leaders, the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, and the Texas Rangers celebrated the unveiling of the "Going to the World Series" statue in the North Plaza for the future Globe Life Field and the soon-to-open Texas Live! during a ceremony today in Arlington's world-class Entertainment District. Former Rangers catcher Bengie Molina was in attendance and the ceremony's emcee was Chuck Morgan, the team's longtime PA announcer.

The project is a dream that has now been fully realized after the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau assisted the City of Arlington in creating a master plan concept to memorialize Entertainment District events with a sculpture trail in 2011. As part of that initiative, the City commissioned an artist, Harry Weber, to develop a sculpture depicting a realistic portrayal of pitcher Neftali Feliz and catcher Bengie Molina embracing following the final out of Game 6 of the 2010 American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Feliz struck out Alex Rodriguez to send the Rangers to their first World Series in the 50-year history of the franchise.

"One of the greatest dreams of any professional baseball team is to make it to the World Series," said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. "This statue celebrates the first time that happened here in Arlington and we're extremely proud of the work by Harry Weber. Our residents can now remember and appreciate this important moment in Rangers history that happened right here in their hometown."
