Celebrate African-American history and culture with the Arlington Public Library this weekend.
The library's 5th Black History Month Festival is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at the Southeast Branch Library, 900 Southeast Green Oaks Blvd.
The afternoon will include exhibits, musical and dance performances, lectures, film, crafts, and more. This year's program will kick off with a showing of excerpts from the documentary film Freedom Summer from the series Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle. A community discussion led by Tarrant County College Southeast Campus' Ruthann Geer will follow the film.
A variety of activities will take place throughout the afternoon, with performances by:

Tarrant County College SE Jazz Combo (performance at 3 p.m.)
Step By Step Dance Studio
Household of Faith Arlington Performance Groups
Cornerstone Baptist Children's Choir
The program will also recognize the winners of the art and essay contest for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Advancing the Dream Celebration 2016", and the winners of the Animal Services Heritage Team Contest.
