As more working adults seek avenues to earn bachelor's degrees, UT Arlington is offering a rebranded, innovative program to aid students who have earned college credit and want to complete their degrees.
Finish@UT, previously known as the Bachelor's Accelerated Completion degree, or BAC Program, offers a selection of online courses coordinated by The University of Texas System that have been conceived primarily for former students in Texas who have earned at least 60 credit hours toward an undergraduate degree.
The program may be completed in shorter time than a traditional, campus-based plan because students take pairs of eight-week courses and may finish faster than through a traditional, campus-based program.
Currently, UT Arlington and two other institutions are participating in Finish@UT, with each offering a different degree program. Students may earn a bachelor of science in university studies through UT Arlington. UT El Paso offers a bachelor of multidisciplinary studies degree, while UT Permian Basin offers a bachelor of arts in humanities degree through the online initiative.
Martha Ellis, UT System's associate vice chancellor for community college partnerships, said the three Finish@UT degree options "afford a person the opportunity to fulfill the dream of career advancement and educational goal attainment through degree completion."
Students need not have begun their studies at a UT System institution, nor do they need to be Texas residents, to participate. Tuition and fees vary by institution. For Texas residents, 12 credits - a full load - will cost about $4,448 at UT Arlington.
Students must apply and be accepted to the participating UT institution from which they will ultimately graduate. Once admitted, students may choose and enroll in Internet courses from any of the three participating institutions.
This spring, 30 students are enrolled at UT Arlington's Finish@UT program, up from 19 in Fall 2011.
