Want to help the hungry? The National Association of Letter Carriers' 25th annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place on Saturday, May 13.
This event, started in 1993, is designed to give something back to the community by helping replenish local food banks. Last year, the food drive collected a record 80 million pounds of nonperishable food.
To participate, all you have to do is set out your bag of nonperishable food before your letter carrier's normal pick-up time. All donated items from Arlington residents will stay in the local community to help other Arlington residents and families.
The top requested non-perishable food items are:
- cereal
- pasta
- pasta sauce or spaghetti sauce
- rice
- canned fruits and vegetables
- canned meals (such as soups, chili and pasta)
- 100% juice
- peanut butter
- macaroni and cheese
- canned protein (tuna, chicken and turkey)
- beans (canned or dry)
You also can donate healthy, low-sodium, low-sugar items such as oatmeal and other whole grains, and canola or olive oil. Some pet food, toiletries, baby food and personal items are also accepted. To view the list or frequently asked questions, click here.
