UT Arlington Graduation Celebration Featuring Kal Penn Moves to College Park Center
Graduation Celebration, UT Arlington's annual celebration of the graduating class, will take place inside the College Park Center, 601 Spaniolo Drive (formerly Pecan Street) in Arlington tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Originally planned outdoors at Levitt Pavilion, the event is moving indoors because heavy rains have saturated the pavilion grounds and more inclement weather is predicted throughout today and this evening.
Graduates, their families, and friends, as well as faculty, staff, students, and members of the community are invited to join in the festivities.
Actor and producer Kal Penn will give this year's keynote address. Penn is well known for his starring roles in the television shows House and 24 and the popular Harold and Kumar films. He has also worked full time in politics, joining the Obama administration as an associate director in the White House Office of Public Engagement. He's currently hosting the new Discovery Channel competition series The Big Brain Theory: Pure Genius.
Tonight's program will include music by the UT Arlington Jazz Orchestra and remarks by UT Arlington President James D. Spaniolo and Rene Grimes, an education graduate student who will represent the Class of 2013.
No outside food or drinks are permitted in College Park Center. Free food and beverages will be provided, and beer will be available for purchase with valid ID. The fireworks show planned for the outdoor venue has been cancelled.
The event is free and no tickets are required. Free parking available in all campus lots and the parking garages just north of the College Park Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
