After two years of planning and working with Santa Fe event organizers, the renowned Santa Fe International Folk Art Market at Arlington is headed to The American Dream City. The inaugural event will take place Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 at The Green at College Park on the east side of the University of Texas at Arlington campus. The Market will feature 35 master artists and their handmade goods from countries such as Italy, Ghana, Nigeria, South Sudan, Peru and many others. Metallica will be coming to The American Dream City on Friday, June 16 during their WorldWired tour this summer. This concert will take place at AT&T Stadium with Avenged Sevenfold as the opening act. Ticket information can be found here. The show is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. and end around 11:00 p.m. Every ticket purchased will include a free physical or digital copy of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, Metallica's newest album that was released in 2016. In an effort to give back to their community, the band has partnered with Crowdrise to start All Within My Hands Foundation. Fans will have the option to donate when they purchase their tickets to the upcoming shows.
The annual summer concert series continues this Friday, June 16, 2017. Visitors will be able to attend a free concert under the stars three nights a week, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 23. A few artists set to hit the stage this summer include Ambrosia, La Tropa F, Reckless Kelly, Sarah Jaffe, Los TexManiacs with Flaco Jimenez and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band. The Texas Rangers are at Globe Life Park in Arlington for a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners this Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 18, 2017. On Friday, fans will enjoy a fireworks show after the game. The first 15,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a Dairy MAX Nomar Mazara Big Chill Cooler Backpack. Sunday's game is $1 Blue Bell Ice Cream Sunday for kids ages 13 & under and the first 15,000 fans ages 14 and older will receive a Dr Pepper/Kroger Father's Day Cheesy Rangers Shirt.
The Wings return home this Friday, June 16 for a game against the New York Liberty at The University of Texas at Arlington's College Park Center in Downtown. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT. Looking to enjoy dinner outdoors? The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's Food Truck Fridays dinner series launches this week in north Arlington. This event will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Friday until June 16 at River Legacy Parks Elm Grove Pavilion, 701 NE Green Oaks Blvd. Each Friday will feature a new lineup of food trucks, allowing visitors the opportunity to taste and try out different fare. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to the food truck events, as seating is limited. The food truck line-ups will be announced the Wednesday before each event at www.naturallyfun.org/foodtruck.
The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department, with the help of Mid-Cities Arlington Swim Team, is spreading the word about water safety by offering a morning of free water safety lessons and activities. Grab your swimsuit, towel, and bike and come out to the Make A Splash event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at Allen Bolden Pool, located at 2800 S. Center Street inside Vandergriff Park. The event will feature demos with American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors, fun activities, a bounce house, safety related vendors, and a hot dog lunch (while supplies last).

The water park in Arlington's Entertainment District will be open Thursday through Sunday, June 15-18, 2017. Hurricane Harbor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor features 47 acres of water wonderland to enjoy. This summer, the Arlington Museum of Art will continue its tradition of photography exhibits with Milton Greene: Women, which opened on May 13 and will run through Aug 6. "Photography has been a huge success at the Arlington Museum of Art," Hightower said. "Our two most attended exhibits, Ansel Adams and Vivian Maier, were photography exhibits. I chose Milton Greene's work because he was famous for his work with celebrities in the '50s, '60s and '70s such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Frank Sinatra." Two of the world's greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time face off as tributes to the Eagles and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers this Friday, June 16, 2017 at Arlington Music Hall in Downtown. The concert gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Taking the side of Tom Petty are the Pettybreakers, who have been called "The World's Greatest Tribute to Tom Petty" by Katie Daryl of AXS TV. They face off against Eagles tribute band, The Boys of Summer. Residents and visitors can purchase tickets for this show on the Arlington Music Hall website or call the box office at 817-226-4400.
