Over 1,200 essays were received from students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 participating in the 11th annual Animal Essay Contest. Competition was strong as all student essays were judged on elements of effective writing and responsible pet ownership.
Twelve essay winners were recognized by the Mayor and Council members at City Hall in the Council Chambers the evening of Tuesday, March 6. A festive reception was held in honor of the winners from each grade category.
Congratulations to the winners and winning schools, and much appreciation to all that participated in this annual event.
First place winners from each grade category received a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, second place winners from each grade category received a $350 U.S. Savings Bond, and third place winners from each grade category received a $150 U.S. Savings Bond.
