Award-winning author Richard Michelson will present the story behind his book, As Good as Anybody on Thursday, February 9 as part of the Texas Rangers Storybook Series.
The free event is open to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. at the Ballpark in Arlington in Suite 306. The Storybook Series is aimed at helping promote literacy for children by bringing in famous authors and illustrators. This event is recommended for the third-grade level and older.
Michelson's critically acclaimed story,As Good as Anybody: Martin Luther King and Abraham Joshua Heschel's Amazing March Toward Freedom, deals with the story of how two men, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Joshua Heschel, formed a remarkable friendship and turned their personal experiences of discrimination into a message of love and equality for all.
During the evening event, the audience will hear the story behind Michelson's book that details the amazing and unique relationship between King and Heschel and that of the African American and Jewish people during the Civil Rights Movement.
About the Author:
Richard Michelson is a poet and a children's book author who has read his works in India, Eastern Europe, and now Arlington! In January 2009, his work As Good As Anybody was awarded the Sydney Taylor Book Award Gold Medal from the Association of Jewish Libraries, and A is for Abraham, was awarded the Silver Medal.
Michelson's other recent recognition includes a 2009 Massachusetts Book Award Finalist, a 2007 Teacher's Choice Award from the International Reading Association, the Skipping Stone Multicultural Book Award in 2009 and 2003, and a 2007 Publisher Weekly Best Book Award.
