Your leaky faucet may be costing more than just your sanity. Nationwide, household leaks have the potential to waste as much as 1 trillion gallons of water every year and require homeowners to repair major problems caused by small leaks.
Home Depot stores across 15 counties in North Texas, including Tarrant County, will be providing free Fix a Leak Workshops from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 19. More than 60 stores will be participating and the workshop will be broken down into three sections. Participants will learn how to find a leak and repair and/or replace leaking faucets, toilets, and sprinkler heads.
"Studies show that 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day," said Dustan Compton, Conservation Manager for the Tarrant Regional Water District. "As a WaterSense partner, we are encouraging North Texas water users to find and fix leaks today before they become bigger problems."
The workshops are being provided in coordination with National Fix a Leak Week, which is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program. WaterSense products are reported to used 20 percent less water than standard faucets, toilets, and shower heads.
