The Arlington Museum of Art added six new stars to the public art campaign called the Star of Texas Art Project in The American Dream City.

New stars have been installed at Tails 'N Trails Dog Park at the Arlington Animal Services Center, the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center (two stars), Water Utilities Department's South Service Center, The Sanford House Inn & Spa and Elzie Odom Athletic Center. The new additions bring the total number of stars to 26, which are spread throughout Arlington.

"We're excited about the new stars and the continued growth of the Star of Texas Art Project," said Chris Hightower, executive director of the Arlington Museum of Art. "The interest and positive reception from the community has truly been a dream come true. We hope the new artwork installed will only increase the awareness of the talented artists we have here in Arlington and throughout Texas."

"The Star of Texas" project, officially unveiled by the Arlington Museum of Art as an exhibit back in November 2015, celebrates the city's brand, Arlington: The American Dream City, with each star positioned throughout Arlington's Cultural Arts District, Downtown area, the Entertainment District and many other places in the city.

The project was made possible by donations, including $50,000 by each the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and Women Inspiring Philanthropy.

The six-foot fiberglass stars represent the many different interpretations of what makes Arlington the American Dream City.

"The thing that makes the American Dream in Arlington so special is that it means something different to just about everyone," said Arlington's Marketing Communications Manager Jay Warren. "We want to continue to celebrate our community's diversity, while also celebrating something that unites us all, the love for our great city."

Last summer, the City of Arlington and the Arlington Museum of Art partnered for the Star of Texas Challenge on social media, inviting residents and visitors to upload photos in front of the original 20 stars. Winners of the challenge received a special edition "Star of Texas" Challenge t-shirt, which won a first place award for Best Use of a Promotional Item at this year's Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) conference in Lakeway on June 8, 2017.

Hundreds have completed the Star of Texas Challenge since it was unveiled on the City's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages back on July 18, 2016.
