From the arrival of the first train in 1876 to explosive growth that ranks the City among the 50th most populous in our country today, Arlington has undergone numerous transitions in its 150-plus year history.

Historical landmarks, including the 1939 Old Post Office on Main Street and the 1928 Thannisch-Vandergriff Building on East Division, are among dozens of sites that reflect the City's heritage. In all, Arlington boasts 39 sites bearing local, state or national historical markers.
"The thing I love most about Arlington history is the wonderful people, places and things that collectively have made our small town a good city," said Geraldine Mills, Arlington Historical Society Director.
