Karen VanWinkle has been named manager of the Arlington Municipal Airport. VanWinkle served as Assistant Airport Manager from 2008 to 2011 and has been Interim Manager since January 2012. "I'm very pleased to have been named the Airport Manager, said VanWinkle. "Arlington Municipal is a vibrant, successful airport and it's exciting to be a part of Arlington's continued economic development."
VanWinkle joined the City of Arlington in 2001 and served in various positions, including operations analyst, management analyst, and project coordinator. Before joining the City, she worked in the private sector with a number of corporations including Northrop Grumman Corporation, Vought Aircraft Corp., and Mobil Oil Corp.
"Karen's spent more than a decade with the City of Arlington as a valued member of our management team and the past several years at the Arlington Municipal Airport," said Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton. "She is well prepared for this opportunity and we are confident in her ability to lead the continued development and growth of the airport. "
The Arlington Municipal Airport is a full-service general aviation reliever airport with 96 t-hangars and a 10,000 square foot maintenance hangar. There are approximately 300 aircraft based at the airport.
VanWinkle has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Abilene Christian University and a Master's of Business Administration in Management from the University of Phoenix. She carries the Certified Member designation from the American Association of Airport Executives.
