The Arlington Chamber of Commerce has announced the inaugural Legends and Leaders Dinner to be held at the Cholula Porch in Globe Life Park on Tuesday, August 22.
The event will honor former Texas Ranger Ballplayer Legends and the Arlington Mayoral Leaders who were instrumental to moving and keeping the Rangers in Arlington. Representing the Legends will be 2017 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Ivan "Pudge" Rodriquez and Texas Rangers Hall of Famer Michael Young. Representing the Leaders will be Victor Vandergriff (on behalf of his late father, former Mayor Tom Vandergriff), former Mayor Richard Greene and current Mayor Jeff Williams.
Mayors Vandergriff (Arlington Stadium in the mid-1960's), Greene (The Ballpark in Arlington in the early 1990's), and Williams (new Rangers ballpark to open in 2020) were all instrumental in new baseball facilities being built in Arlington.
"The Chamber is proud to honor those having such tremendous impact on baseball, ballparks and business in Arlington. We will recognize the mayor who was instrumental in encouraging the team to move to Arlington and the mayors who provided the leadership to keep the Rangers here in Arlington," said Michael Jacobson, president and CEO of the Arlington Chamber.
A limited number of tables are available for this exclusive dinner, which begins with dinner at 7:15 p.m. followed by the program. Tables of eight may be purchased through the Arlington Chamber of Commerce for either $3,000 or $2,000. Each attendee at the Legends and Leaders Dinner will receive an autographed copy of the Ivan Rodriquez bookThey Call Me Pudge: My Life Playing the Game I Love. Each table registration also receives two tickets for a VIP reception to be held prior to the dinner at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Fame (1st floor). Photos with Pudge and Michael are encouraged at the reception.
"The Texas Rangers are proud to be an integral part of Arlington and the August 22 Legends and Leaders Dinner," said Texas Rangers Executive Vice President of Business Operations Rob Matwick. "We sincerely appreciate the outstanding community partnerships between our baseball operations, the City Leaders, our Chamber and all the players who have contributed to deliver our world-class product."
