Are you taking special precautions for your pets during the 4th of July holiday? The ASCPA reports that "one in five pets goes missing after being scared by loud noises, so keep them safe in a quiet, secure area at home."
The 4th of July is an especially important time to be diligent about making sure your Arlington pet is licensed, registered, microchipped, and wearing its collar with current identification tags. These are important responsibilities as a pet owner.
Here are more Fourth of July Safety Tips provided by the ASPCA to help keep pets safe:
- Pets can become dehydrated quickly. Know the signs of overheating (excessive panting, increased heart rate and weakness) and make sure your pet has access to fresh water and a shady or air- conditioned place.
- Make sure your pet can't get into human food (especially grapes, onion, avocado and chocolate) or alcoholic drinks.
- Insecticides, insect repellents, sunscreen, citronella products and glow-sticks are toxic, so keep them away from your pet.
- Don't leave your pet in the car! Even with the windows cracked, a car's temperature can reach 100 degrees in 10 minutes on an 85-degree day.
