Police Officer Bryan Graham Named Grand Marshal of 2012 Arlington Holiday Lights Parade

The holiday season gets off to a colorful start in downtown Arlington on Saturday Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. with the 2012 Arlington Holiday Lights Parade and lighting of the tree. Arlington Police Officer Bryan Graham, who was shot on duty earlier this year, will preside over the festivities as Grand Marshal.

Dozens of lighted floats, antique cars, marching bands, mounted units, carolers, and choirs will participate in this holiday tradition, which every year attracts hundreds of people of all ages. Many arrive well before the parade begins to set up a seat in their favorite spot along the route. 'The parade is a family tradition for lots of people. It's a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season and just create some long lasting memories,' Co-Chair Don Duke said.

Entertainment begins before the parade at 4 p.m. and the 2012 Arlington Holiday Lights Parade, sponsored byDecorator's Warehouse, will begin at 6 p.m. The parade staging area will be located at Mesquite and Center Streets behind the Municipal Office Tower in downtown Arlington. The parade will travel west on Main Street, south on West Street and east on Abram Street in front of City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Central Library.

The holiday tradition also includes the official lighting of the Chesapeake Energy Christmas Tree immediately after the parade in front of City Hall. Santa Claus is expected to make a special appearance! Take a picture with Santa at the Levitt Pavilion after the tree lighting.
