What is Camp Kitsu? It's Arlington's newest summer camp! "Kitsu" is the Caddo Native American word for "water," and water plays a big part in this exciting outdoor adventure camp on the banks of Lake Arlington. A total of 28 campers participated in the first week. Arlington Parks and Recreation staff expect enrollment to grow over the summer as word gets out about the camp.
Each week campers spend time canoeing and fishing in addition to activities such as archery instruction, nature crafts, building forts, learning about conservation, swimming, playing games and going on exciting field trips. Each of the nine weeks of camp has a title that hints at the week's activities. "Lovin' the Outdoors" was the title of the week that just concluded. Others include: "Livin' in a Fort," "Animal Kingdom," "Making it Float" and "Survival in the Woods."
The camp is led by Arya Madani and a team of fun and experienced counselors. "We had a great first week!" stated Arya. "We have so many exciting things planned for the summer. It was great to see the kids out at the lake having a blast and learning new things!"
