Congratulations to Dale Cardwell as the April Volunteer of the Month! Dale has volunteered with the Arlington Public Library since 2013 at the Southeast Branch. He has donated more than 780 hours as a Book Doctor, Book Wrangler and Program Helper.

Dale moved from Cleveland, Ohio, to Texas with his Priscilla in 1983. After 23 years as an accountant for UT Southwestern Medical Center, he retired and at the encouragement of his wife, who also worked for the library, became a volunteer.

They have one daughter who lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, and four grandchildren. Dale periodically travels to visit his daughter or brother in Cleveland. One day, he would like to visit the northeast part of the United States.

Dale is an avid walker and enjoys watching the business channels on TV and the occasional series such as Downton Abbey and Breaking Bad. He also has six cats that keep him busy.

Dale is very helpful during Homeschool Thursday, said Marla Boswell, Library Program Specialist.

"He loves to be involved with the children and help them with our STEM activities, like building volcanos,"Boswell said.

As a Book Doctor, Dale helps with repairable items and as a Book Wrangler he helps organize material and get them back on the shelf. He has a knack for keeping things in order and enjoys training new volunteers. His favorite volunteer job is helping with Homeschool Programming and interacting with the kids. When asked what he enjoys most about being a volunteer, he replied "The people that I work with!"
