Residents are invited to the USTA Tennis Block Party at the Arlington Tennis Center (ATC) from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. The center is located at 500 Mayfield Rd.
Activities on the court will include adult open drills, "Beat the Pro" and serve contests, plus special 10 and Under clinics for kids. Off the court, residents can enjoy music, refreshments and take part in a dunking booth with proceeds benefiting the Arlington Animal Services Center.
"The USTA Block Party is a great way to introduce or reintroduce the game of tennis to people of all ages," said Sheryl Osborn, ATC facility manager. "It's an afternoon of fun for everyone."
The City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating the groundbreaking of six new 10 and Under tennis courts as part of the event. A brief ceremony will kick off the Block Party at 1 p.m.
The new courts are designed for children age 10 and under so they can learn the game fast and have fun. Arlington was one of the early adopters of 10 and Under/QuickStart tennis in 2008.
"10 and Under tennis for kids is a monumental move for youth," said Osborn. "This direction by USTA provides kids with the opportunity to enjoy and learn the game fast."
