Don 't miss Zu's debut as Sandy at Theatre Arlington 's Production of Annie through December 16, 2012!
Read the remarkable story of Zu, a wonderful and talented dog adopted from Arlington Animal Services, as told by Marketing Director of Theatre Arlington, Emmy Klein:
"When Zu was adopted from Arlington Animal Services in June of this year, it was doubtful she had any idea she would be starring in a huge musical just six months down the road. Of course, it is not a surprise considering her adopted parents are very much ingrained in the wonderful world of theater. In fact, Zu is sharing her first show with her parents - Melanie Mason, who is directing the show, and Dennis Maher, who is portraying FDR.
Ms. Mason has been involved in theater in Arlington since 1989. Then, she was the spotlight operator for a production of Annie and was tasked with lighting the dog. Now, she is director, actress, voice-over actress and mother to Zu.
Mr. Maher 's professional theater career spans 47 years. Currently, he is a professor and director at UT Arlington, as well as a dramaturg. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a dramaturg is a literary adviser who deals with research and development of plays, including researching the historical and cultural aspects of a piece of theater.
Now, they are introducing their newest family member to life on the stage. Zu has been occupying a space at the Country Acres Kennels to prepare, and she is taking to her role like a pro. In fact, Zu and Sarah, the girl playing Annie, have become fast friends. With Sarah 's sweet voice belting out familiar songs like Tomorrow and Zu 's loveable personality, audiences are sure to feel those warm and fuzzy feelings we all look for during the holidays.'
Adoptable pets have lots of love to give. Some pets are adopted solely to become cherished family members; some have gone on to help people by becoming pet therapy dogs; and then there is Zu - a talented pup who has become a treasured family member and celebrity! Congratulations to Zu and her new family, and best wishes for much success in their stage production of Annie!
