Now is the time to begin planning to attend athletic and academic camps at The University of Texas at Arlington this summer. For the first time in 2012, the University has added Fitness Adventures 101 to its summer camp lineup. The new day camp for ages 6-12 will combine interactive instruction with high-energy fitness activities to enhance campers' knowledge of health, wellness and nutrition.
"Fitness Adventures 101 will provide kids the opportunity to sample a variety of fitness activities," said Christopher Ray, director of UT Arlington's Center of Healthy Living and Longevity and an assistant professor of kinesiology. "It is essential that kids are exposed to diverse activities in order to identify the type of exercise they most enjoy, as enjoyment plays a critical role in one's ability to maintain a fitness regime across the lifespan."

UT Arlington is also offering overnight camps such as Bridge to Engineering for ninth and tenth-grade students. Campers will benefit from field trips and hands-on projects while being exposed to a variety of engineering disciplines, including aerospace, biomedical, civil and environmental, computer science, electrical, industrial, materials science and mechanical.
"The students in the overnight camps enjoy a real college experience," said Lauren Miller, conference and marketing services assistant director. "They get to stay in a residence hall and have a resident counselor. They'll also do things like eat in the cafeteria and bowl at the University Center – it's a very well-rounded schedule of fun and educational activities."
The University of Texas at Arlington is a comprehensive research institution of almost 33,500 students in the heart of North Texas. Visit http://www.uta.edu/ to learn more.
