The Optimist Club of Arlington has strengthened its commitment to education in Arlington with a $50,000 donation to the new Downtown Library.
The Optimist Club has supported Arlington youth since its founding in 1945. Diverse offerings such as sports programs, an essay contest, a special-needs scout troup, and scholarships in conjunction with the University of Texas provide opportunities to students with a range of talents and interests.
"The Optimistic Club is here for all the city's kids," says member Charlie McNutt. "We're proud to work with the library because they're here for everyone as well."
The Downtown Library will feature support children and teens with dedicated service areas spanning two floors.
"A library is often the largest education service organization in a city," says member Tom Ware. "Opportunities for a new library on this scale don't come along often, so we wanted to support this building from the very beginning."
"It will be so much more than a building of books," agrees Optimistic Michael Cheves. "It's interactive."
The Optimist Club will be included on the Downtown Library's donor wall, which will be featured prominently in the first floor lobby.
