Cooper Street lane closures could begin as soon as this week, weather permitting, so Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews can begin paving work.

Now that installation of the raised curb medians are complete, the state will add an asphalt overlay to the entire stretch of Cooper Street between Interstate 20 and Mitchell Street, near the University of Texas at Arlington.

Lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for that phase of the project, said Val Lopez, TxDOT's Fort Worth District Public Information Officer.

"We are doing it at night to minimize the impact to motorists," Lopez said.

Cooper Street improvements are expected to be complete by this summer, Lopez said.
