If you come to City Hall on Friday mornings, and need directions or information, you will find Ken Koenig at the lobby information desk, ready to assist you. Ken has been helping City Hall visitors in this capacity since February 2011.

Before he retired, Ken worked for Texas' three largest state agencies (Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Department of Public Welfare and the Texas Rehabilitation Commission). His work assignments included Nursing Supervisor, Social Worker, Institutional Specialist, Counselor, and Program Manager. When he retired the first time, from the Texas Rehabilitation Commission in 1987, he had completed 34 years in state service. He then went to work for Goodwill industries as a Vocational Program Manager. In 1990, he joined the staff of the City of Fort Worth in the Employment and Training Division, and worked there until he retired for the second time in 1998.

After retiring, Ken began doing volunteer work. He has provided assistance to several organizations, including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and Arlington Visitor Center. In addition to manning the information desk at City Hall on Friday mornings, Ken currently gives of his time and talents to help the Arlington YWCA and is a Volunteer Ambassador at the DFW International Airport, a post he has held for the past 13 years.

Ken is a life-long resident of North Texas - if you don't count the time he lived in Hawaii attending the university there. The son of German immigrants, Ken was born in Archer County and later moved to Wichita Falls, where he graduated from high school. He holds an Associate Degree as a Psychiatric Technician and a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. He has one son, who is Director of the Consumer Electronics Association in Fairfax, VA.

The next time you are in City Hall, please take a moment to greet Ken - or one of the other Information Desk volunteers who help our visitors "get where they are going."
