Saturday, August 11, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
River Legacy Park, 701 N.W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington

Arlington Reads and the Arlington Public Library Foundation are proud to announce the third annual Book It for Literacy 5K/Mile Fun Run. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. and the mile at 9 a.m.

The event raises awareness and support for Arlington Reads" adult, youth, and early childhood literacy programs. This year, runners will be joined by about thirty boys and girls in grades 3-5 who participate in Active Joes and Fitnessistas, Arlington Reads" healthy youth programs. The students will spend the weeks leading up to the race learning about nutrition, media literacy, body image and language, goal setting, and more. They will also spend a portion of the classes running in preparation for the race and will be sporting a special T-shirt on race day.

Prizes will be awarded to first finishers in several age categories. Spectators and sponsors are welcome. Runners may acquire sponsors and have a chance to win an iPad®! For more information about participating in the run, sponsoring a runner, or supporting Arlington Reads, check our website at ArlingtonLibrary.org. Registration is also available on race day.

The Arlington Public Library provides literacy programs to the community through Arlington Reads, recently accredited by ProLiteracy, an international nonprofit organization that supports literacy programs throughout the nation. Arlington Reads is now the only accredited literacy program in Tarrant County and one of two in the North Texas region. In the four years since its inception, Arlington Reads has helped thousands of students reach their literacy goals through classes and individual tutoring sessions.
