First Friday at The Grease Monkey
Catch this fun summer concert series in the Grease Monkey's parking lot before it ends. The Jim Bowies and Zane Williams will perform this Friday. This event runs from 5-10 p.m. In addition to free music, the concerts will have food and beverages for purchase. Also check out the retail market set up on Front Street for some great handmade art and jewelry.
Run a Race for Literacy
Join the effort to make Arlington a more literate city by participating in the fourth annual Book It for Literacy 5K/1-Mile Fun Run at River Legacy Park this Saturday, from 8-11 a.m. Proceeds from the race support the Arlington Public Library's literacy division, Arlington Reads, which provides adult, family and youth literacy services within the community.
Comedy & Magic for All Ages
Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages (four and up), get ready as the Arlington Improv, located in The Arlington Highlands, brings you a fun combination of comedy and magic all in one show. This is an interactive show designed to have you and your whole family laughing and in awe. The fun simply doesn't stop. Sunday's show is at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.
Back 2 School Bash 2013
The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Mission Arlington to help send underprivileged kids back to school with the items they need for a great education. Save 50% off pool admission to any Arlington Aquatics facilities, from August 3-16, when you donate at least one school supply item per person. Donations can also be made in-person at any aquatics facility.
Visit the Smithsonian Without Leaving Arlington
There's still time to see the Arlington Museum of Art's summer exhibition Harlem Renaissance: A Celebration of Art & Culture. This exhibit features works from artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Charles White, Aaron Douglas and Richmond Barthé. While there, be sure to visit Arlington's first Smithsonian art exhibition, William H. Johnson: An American Modern. This exhibit, curated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibits Services (SITES), brings 20 pieces of Johnson's work, including paintings, drawings and pictures.
Tickets - Admission to the exhibit is $8 for adults; $5 for students and seniors (over 65); free to members and children under 12 with an adult. Ticket price includes admission to both exhibits. PURCHASE TICKETS HERE
